The idea of passing such an act is abhorrent to most citizens of Ontario. We have one environment - just one - that cannot be replaced. Buildings, whether houses, apartments, commercial units, or any other, can be built on non-sensitive land. They do not have to usurp the space used by one-of-a-kind species. You cut down the trees at Ontario Place, and what happened? The coyotes had to move into the city, resulting in frightening people and eventually the death of the coyotes.
Just like Canada, the environment is NOT for sale!!
Our land, air, water, wildlife, and personal rights, including Indigenous rights are the basis of life in Ontario. Your government is not entitled to simply seize all the power for yourself in order to please developers. A healthy environment sustains our well-being, our economy and our quality of life. We need to work in harmony with Nature to prevent problems in the future.
Mr Ford, you promised to protect Ontario and to fight Donald Trump's egregious infringements on our way of life. Why are you then, copying his haphazard and ruinous examples? How could you even consider such an undemocratic bill? If implemented, the outcome of this act would be disastrous for our current health and the health of future citizens of our province.
We need to strengthen the Endangered Species Act. We need to stop catering to the desire for quick profits. We need to restore democracy. We need to listen to Indigenous Voices. And you need to commit to keeping your promises, especially after already being stung by the Greenbelt scandal.
Please listen: The environment is NOT FOR SALE !!
