Please do not move forward with Bill 5. Conserving species biodiversity makes our environment resilient, which contributes to the well-being of Ontarians. Changing the definition of ‘habitat’ means important areas for species conservation will not be protected. This will not enhance the rate of development - it will be detrimental to species and our environment. It is also very unclear how the ‘Species conservation act’ will help species. This should have been clarified in the proposal in order to be transparent with the goals of this change are.
