It is clear this proposal is designed to prioritize development and industry over the environment.
Nature is an enormous part of the land we call Canada, and shapes all of our lives. Protecting nature is essential to building healthy communities and recognizing the sovereignty and stewardship of Indigenous Peoples. Protecting nature and her beings creates the healthy and resilient future we not only want but need.
This proposal is Trump-style deregulation masquerading as progress, where nature is sacrificed in the name of profit and political gain.
Rather than repealing the Endangered Species Act and implementing lawless zones for resource extraction, regulations should and must become more stringent.
Handing sweeping powers to the Provincial Cabinet at the expense of environmental regulations and Indigenous rights will not resolve trade wars or stimulate economic growth. This type of power mirrors Trump-style politics, sacrificing hard-won protections that benefit not only our beautiful province but everyone who calls Ontario home.
Ontarians urgently deserve policies that benefit planet and people, not corporate greed and interests.
