I’m writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 5. This legislation is deeply concerning because it strips away basic environmental protections and weakens the public’s right to have a say in decisions that affect our communities, green spaces, and future.

Allowing developments to bypass environmental review and public consultation is not responsible governance—it’s reckless. These reviews aren’t red tape; they’re essential safeguards that prevent harm, ensure transparency, and hold decision-makers accountable. Removing them only benefits developers, not the people of Ontario.

The bill also raises serious red flags about how Indigenous communities will be treated in these so-called “special economic zones.” It looks like yet another move to silence Indigenous voices and sidestep the responsibility to work with them in good faith.

Ontarians deserve better. We deserve a government that values our input, protects our shared environment, and respects Indigenous rights. Bill 5 does the opposite. It prioritizes speed and secrecy over sustainability and inclusion.

I urge you to reject this bill and commit to development that includes—not excludes—the people and ecosystems that make this province worth building in the first place.
