It seems to me that Bill 5 erodes decades of hard-won protections for species and habitats in the name of so-called 'efficiency'.
When I read that "The purpose of the species protection legislation will be to drive species protection and conservation while taking into account social and economic considerations, including the need for sustainable economic growth in Ontario." then in the next paragraph it says "The government would also have discretion to remove protected species from the list." This simply does not jive.
I would like to impress on my elected representatives, about the importance of co-flourishing. The importance of ensuring our habitats and ALL the lives we share this planet with are considered and kept from harm in the work to provide housing, infrastructure, etc. for our human population. Each and every life has a gift to give the living whole. All lives are important in providing a healthy future for you, me, our children and ALL the future generations to come.
We have immense inventory of people, ideas and resources to draw upon in this province. Surely we can accomplish the work needed to look after our human needs without stepping on the needs of those without a voice.
I thank you in advance for your time and attention in bringing these points up to the Premiere and the various officials working on these proposed changes. Please let them ALL know that the care of our habitats and all the species we share this planet with ARE AS IMPORTANT and interconnected to addressing the care and health of our human populations.
Thank you.
