The proposed changes to legislation and regulations would take some time to draft and implement, causing unnecessary delays to housing, transit, and critical infrastructure projects. This proposal only creates additional administrative delays. In the meantime, developers may choose to wait months to begin assessments for their projects, given the current uncertainty. This proposal will not speed up the housing development that is desperately needed in Ontario. Furthermore, this proposal does not drive species protection and conservation with its narrow definition of habitat, and the removal of prohibitions on species harassment. It is wasteful to spend taxpayer dollars on this inefficient administrative process, which will not speed up development nor robustly protect species.
