Bill 5 will allow developers to decimate habitat without sufficient oversight. I vehemently oppose Bill 5 for the sake of the environment of the Province of Ontario and all who inhabit it now and in the future.
"The government would also have discretion to remove protected species from the list." By what criteria is this determined? This not a science-based decision, but a political partisan decision involving no science.
The definition of "habitat" is not appropriate. Many species need a larger area to function then just an immediate area for "breeding, rearing, staging, wintering, or hibernating". The scope defined is too narrow for species to survive.
