The proposed changes do not aim to simplify the Endangered Species Act but to diminish protections for Species at Risk. The weakening of protections for species at risk is resoundingly apparent in the change of the definition of habitat. The new definition is not only inadequate to protect species but also unclear.
We are in the midst of a global biodiversity crisis, and now is the time to add legislation that protects biodiversity, not lessen or remove protections. Whether people like it or not, the world is a system that needs all its components, including wildlife, in balance to function properly.
I will not support any changes that weaken biodiversity or environmental protections.
I formally oppose the proposed changes and request that they be abandoned.
