As someone who lives near and works in toronto, I am deeply concerned about the environmental impact of projects in Toronto, and Ontario's environment in general. I am leaving a comment to object to the proposed exemptions from the Environmental Bill of Rights
that will remove the right of Ontarians to be advised of, or to
comment on, any required permits at Ontario Place to support the project.
The fragile nature of Ontario Place's ecosystem means that consultation with Ontarians in line with the Environmental Bill of Rights, put in place to protect our environment, is even more important. This Bill of Rights is here to protect our environment for our children and grandchildren to come, especially in this time of increasing climate disasters. This proposed Bill deprives citizens of their
rights and the government of valuable community
knowledge. Rather than exempting Ontario Place, the goal as a whole here should be environmental protection as in the Environmental Bill of Rights, the public and government working as a team - not excluding the public.
The proposal is not in the public interest, compromises the
future of this critical waterfront site and serves only to
benefit the private interests of foreign companies. Instead it
represents one more compromise in environmental
protection, and citizen's rights to be informed, at a time
when Ontario along with the rest of the planet is facing a
climate and biodiversity crisis
