These proposed changes to Species Protection in Ontario are deeply flawed and clearly guided by greed and hearts of stone. No specifies protection is adequate unless it considers the species and the ecosystem as absolute priorities. Attempting to add economic growth as a factor in this discussion is shameful and dishonours our role as humans in caring for the full community of creation that God our Creator has made. We protect species because THEY matter and their habitat matters -- and not for any other reason. The provincial government has a moral, ethical mandate to protect species -a mandate that is grossly comprised if anything other than ecosystem health and species protection itself is part of the decision-making and governance policy. Species protection is necessary because it protects our world. The economics here are those of ecological health -- nothing else is welcome or appropriate in this conversation. If we allow business and finance to be part of this conversation, the protection of our world is lost -- and so our we.
