I am writing to express my grave concerns and strong opposition to Bill 5. As an environmental activist and indigenous ally, I am appalled at this legislation and that a Government of Ontario would represent this as being in the best interests of its constituents and the answer to protecting Ontario’s economy. It is the most blatant action in a long series of environmental deregulations and species protection rollbacks enacted by this Government. In an attempt to legalize extreme executive overreach, this Government is exhibiting a total disregard of our democracy. Gutting our Environmental Species Protection Act refutes science in favour of political will, giving developers an easy path to harm vulnerable wildlife without oversight.
Formation of special economic zones allow planning processes and environmental protections, basically any law, to be circumvented and disregarded.by chosen corporations.
Automatic approval processes for developers offers little transparency and accountability.
Why is Reconciliation being quashed from this Government’s mandate?
Bill 5 is an unparalleled gift to developers and rich landowners, coming at the cost of our environment, indigenous and democratic rights. Unregulated developed and weakened environmental and species protection is not in the best interests of Ontario’s. Please do not pass this legislation!
