I am completely opposed to Bill 5 and deeply alarmed by the direction it represents. This bill isn’t about “unleashing the economy”—it’s about silencing the public, overriding environmental protections, and putting private interests ahead of the public good.
By removing requirements for public consultation and environmental review, this bill invites unchecked development without accountability. It effectively tells Ontarians that their voices don’t matter when it comes to decisions that will shape the landscape, health, and livability of our communities for generations.
Worse still, it opens the door to ignoring Indigenous communities and erasing their right to be consulted about projects that directly impact their lands. That is not just unjust—it’s unethical.
This is not how a responsible, democratic government should operate. We are in the middle of an ecological crisis, and the answer is not to fast-track destruction—it’s to strengthen the systems that protect our air, water, wildlife, and people.
Bill 5 is a betrayal of public trust. I urge you to stop this bill before irreversible harm is done. Ontarians want smart development, not rushed, backdoor deals that bypass scrutiny and silence those most affected.
