To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the proposed legislative amendments to the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006 and the Historical Parks Act intended to support the Town of Wasaga Beach’s Tourism Enhancement Proposal.

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is a cherished natural resource, not only for local residents but for Ontarians across the province. It offers public access to one of the longest freshwater beaches in the world, and its protected status ensures the ecological integrity of the shoreline, dunes, and surrounding habitats. The park's current provincial designation plays a critical role in conservation, public enjoyment, and environmental education.

Transferring control or ownership of any part of the beach or parkland for private development under the guise of tourism enhancement poses significant risks. Once this precedent is set, we risk irreversible environmental degradation, reduced public access, and the commercialization of what should remain a protected, public space for generations to come.

Tourism and environmental stewardship are not mutually exclusive, and development must not come at the cost of conservation. I urge the Government of Ontario to keep Wasaga Beach and its parklands under provincial protection and to reject any legislative changes that would undermine the core values of the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act.

Please prioritize long-term environmental protection and public access over short-term economic interests. Wasaga Beach should remain a provincial park — for the people, not profit.

Sincerely,

A Local Resident of Wasaga Beach
