I'm a concerned citizen and regular visitor to Wasaga Beach. I was alarmed to hear about the plan to transfer 1.5 km of critical Piping Plover habitat—from Spruce Street to the river—from Parks to the municipality.
Wasaga Beach is home to over half of Ontario’s endangered Piping Plovers. Since their return in 2008, Parks has led vital conservation work. Transferring this habitat puts nearly 20 years of progress at risk, especially since similar municipal takeovers elsewhere have led to plover loss.
Please keep this habitat under Parks' care, where it’s been protected and monitored for years. Let’s safeguard what makes Wasaga Beach so unique.
