This proposal violates Ontario's legal obligation to consult Indigenous Nations where their rights may be impacted.
This breach is especially serious because decisions concerning water fall under Indigenous legal jurisdiction.
Ontario will be violating Section 35 of the Constitution Act 1982 if we move forward with this proposal to automatically approve water taking permits, without consultation or review.
I do not want to live in a province which is so disrespectful of Indigenous rights.
I do not want to live in a province which gets taken to court, and violates its own Guidelines on Consultation with Aboriginal Peoples.
Please spare us all the shame and pain.
