I am calling upon the province to approve an MZO to develop the Jamesville site. It seems incomprehensible that CN should have the power to prevent the City from building much needed housing. The need for housing is paramount and this site would accommodate numerous families who desperately require a home. That it has remained undeveloped for this long is an atrocity and a discredit to the reputation of CN as a corporate citizen. The argument that their switching yard will be a disturbance to residents is implausible given that the location of the project is a number of blocks distant from the CN yard and due to the fact that numerous dwellings are situated much closer to the CN property. The area is a desirable place to live as is apparent from property prices in the neighbourhood. It is scandalous that CN has blocked this development and that the province has not acted sooner to give this project its support.
