As an avid rock climber and outdoor enthusiast, I’m thrilled to see Devil’s Glen Provincial Park considering the inclusion of rock climbing as an approved recreational activity. This proposal is an incredibly positive step forward — not just for the climbing community, but for the park itself and the broader public who benefit from increased access to outdoor recreation.
Climbers are, at their core, nature lovers. We seek out quiet, beautiful places to challenge ourselves physically and mentally, and we deeply value the natural spaces that make our sport possible. Responsible climbing fosters a strong connection to the environment and often inspires stewardship and advocacy for conservation.
In Ontario, climbing access has historically been limited and hard-won. The recognition of climbing as a legitimate, sustainable recreational activity in a provincial park is a landmark moment. It not only helps meet the growing demand for outdoor recreation but also aligns with the province’s goals of promoting physical activity, mental wellness, and connection with nature.
I strongly support this amendment and encourage the park to work collaboratively with organizations like the Ontario Alliance of Climbers to ensure responsible access, environmental preservation, and community involvement moving forward.
Thank you for considering this important and progressive change.
