The planned redevelopment of this site is critical to partially addressing the shortage of affordable housing in Hamilton. The homelessness problem is only getting worse and it is time to move past the unreasonable blockage by CN Rail.
I have been a Hamilton resident for over 40 years and I lived closer to the CN railyard than the proposed site for the first 15 years. Yes, my neighbours and I heard noise from the trains being shunted. However, this was overly bothersome and just part of living in an active city. I am aware of new construction in Toronto that is much closer to railyards than the Hamilton situation and this construction was not blocked by the rail company. There has now been many years of trying to reach a negotiated settlement and the CN opposition to this construction remains ongoing. It is time for the province to step in and allow the vitally needed redevelopment construction to begin.
