It's appalling that the provincial government is transferring (selling off) land that has been set aside for different purposes. Land under Ontario Parks have stated values to help protect the natural environment and educate visitors. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park provides critical habitat for species like Piping Plover that are globally threatened (let alone provincially endangered).
How does the government propose to continue to protect Piping Plovers going forward at this location under municipal control when municipal employees lack the knowledge that provincial staff with Ontario Parks have for things like our natural environment and species at risk, like the Piping Plover and it's habitat?
I am 100% against this proposal -- at a time when people are needing more outlets to the natural environment, we should be increasing the province's portfolio of parks and protected areas -- not selling them off!
