I am opposed to any expansion of the GFL landfill without stronger protections for the surrounding community. Over the past several years, residents have experienced ongoing odours and potential air quality impacts. These issues raise serious concerns about health, safety, and quality of life for nearby families.

At a minimum, continuous air monitoring should be required around all sides of the landfill property. Monitoring must include nitrogen oxides, ammonia, particulate matter (PM 2.5 and PM 10), TRS, and ozone. This data should be publicly accessible and regularly reported so that residents can be confident that the landfill is operating safely and without negative impacts.

Without transparent, independent, and effective monitoring, the risks posed by this facility will continue to undermine community trust. I strongly urge the Ministry to make community health protections a condition of any approval.
