The Goulais River is our main watershed for the area and people have wells close to it, fish, and swim in it. It is an important aquatic habitat for many animals and possible contaminants would have a disastrous domino effect from fish to eagles. Furthermore, the types of chemicals, antiobiotics, and drugs in human waste can have permanent and lasting effects including but not limited to bimagnification of persistent toxins. The Goulais River is a main traditional waterway of the Batchewana First Nation, who must be considered and consulted. Dumping treated effluent puts the people and the aquatic ecosystem at an irreversible risk. It is not worth the risk and shows disrespect and disregard for the people, plants and animals that rely on this river.
