The river is the heart of the community and used by many families for different activities. Dumping treated sewage not only hurts the delicate balance of the ecosystem but deters families from using the water they fought so hard to live on. Children use it to swim and families use it to fish activities that would now be disgusting to continue if the dumping of sewage was aloud. Just because it’s “safe” or “treated” does not mean it’s humaine or fair. Searchmont resort does nothing to give back to the community and has not earned the right to destroy the very thing that gives it life, no matter how much they pay to have this passed.
