I am a local resident, hunter, and angler, and I formally object to the proposal for a new Environmental Compliance Approval (sewage works) for Searchmont Ski Resort Inc.
My objection is based on the unacceptable risk this sewage effluent poses to the local environment and the wild resources I rely on.
• Risk to Local Water and Fishery: Introducing any treated domestic sewage effluent into our local waterways threatens to increase nutrient loading and introduce contaminants. This will degrade water quality, cause algal blooms, and directly harm critical fish habitats and spawning grounds. The health of the local fishery will be compromised.
• Contamination of Wild Food Sources: As someone who hunts and fishes this area for food, I am deeply concerned about the potential for effluent to contaminate or otherwise impact fish and game. I require the local waters to be clean to ensure the safety and quality of the food I harvest. The discharge of sewage effluent is a direct threat to the purity of our local food supply.
I urge the MECP to reject this proposal and require the proponent to implement a zero-discharge solution, such as advanced treatment with full recirculation or high-level land application, that guarantees the absolute protection of our shared water and wildlife.
The integrity of our environment and the safety of our wild food must be protected.
