Dear Premier Ford and Minister Flack:
I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 60, which would cause the elimination of rent control and security of tenure for tenants across Ontario.
Bill 60 would severely impact the province's tax base since salaries do not keep up with rent increases and many working people will move to other provinces when faced with impossible rent increases. There could be a significant increase in homelessness, particularly for the most vulnerable including seniors.
There is no upside to this bill.
Tenants could be forced to move every 12 months, face unpredictable and exorbitant rent increases, be evicted if they ask for repairs, or for any reason whatever. They would have no protection. This is an ill conceived bill that would backfire spectacularly on smaller landlords.
Increase the number of staffers in the Landlord and Tenants Bureau, speed up the processing of cases, and build more rental housing. There is no reserve of warehoused apartments waiting to be rented.
please remember the story of the goose that laid the golden eggs. Bill 60 will kill the goose and break the eggs.
I am asking you to please oppose these proposed changes and choose to protect renters in Ontario.
Thank you for your time.
