GDS are critical standards for creating resilient, future-proofed buildings and healthy, livable communities. They're particularly important for disaster prevention and stormwater management. Differences in GDS metrics between communities exist to better serve local geographic features. Getting rid of them is short-sighted and without them, taxpayers will pay the cost in the long run.
