I strongly urge you to reconsider this proposal. The evidence has suggested over decades that when it comes to local development or acting in times of crisis, municipalities are at the forefront and best prepared to act in a tailored manner. Cities know what their residents need. They know how the city needs to develop in terms of transportation and other infrastructure to suit residents today and into the future. They have shown they know how to be agile and identify ways for people to get around even when there are health crises. The role of the provincial government is to ensure connectivity between the municipalities or agglomerations in the case of the GTHA, and support through adequate funding. Centralisation of power when given the diversity of needs between Ontario municipalities serves no one. Requiring all municipalities to follow a prescriptive framework would hamstring the municipal governments and the residents will bear the consequences.
