I rely on safe streets in my commute. I can’t afford a car in Toronto and TTC is not always reliable. During the summer, I rely on being able to safely bike and during the winter I walk an hour to work both ways. Over the last few years of this life style, I am surprised by how often I’ve been almost hit by drivers both as a pedestrian and on bike. I do not understand why my government is willing to sacrifice my safety for the very thing that could cause me harm. Also, the sidewalks are already small as they are. It’s frustrating to walk with friends who have physical disabilities and cannot walk easily on our streets. Prioritizing cars impacts our safety and the accessibility of our neighbours. Let our local governments make decisions on our driving, walking and biking space.
