This bill is a terrible idea because it would actually worsen traffic congestion. All the evidence points to bicycle lanes reducing gridlock because safe cycling infrastructure allows more people to choose cycling as a mode of transportation. More lanes for traffic equals more drivers and more gridlock. The elimination of protected bicycle lanes makes the road more dangerous for everyone. I would also like to note that this bill is a gross overreach of provincial power - municipalities should be able to make their own decisions about planning and transportation infrastructure.
