This proposal takes the province, and transportation planning, entirely in the wrong direction. If the goal is to move people, not cars (which I truly hope that it is), then we need to be focusing on things that actually work and for which there is evidence, like enhanced public transit and active transportation options. Bike lanes are absolutely not a cause of gridlock; too many vehicles are. All one needs to do is look at the Gardiner Expressway; there are no bike lanes on it but far too many single-passenger vehicles.

Bike lanes protect people, and save lives. And they encourage people to reduce their reliance on vehicle use, most which still burn fossil fuels. If we are serious about climate change, and reducing on dependence on internal combustion engines, then we should be doing everything within our power to encourage people to get on bikes. The first way of doing that is to make it safe for them to do so.
