Many, many species require much more than their immediate habitat. Corridors, migration routes, and spaces for diversity are required for species to thrive. Please reconsider the reduction of definitions of protected areas. There is no reason to restrict these. Mining under existing regulations can still proceed and make plenty of money while respecting that we are seriously in the midst of a global biodiversity crisis.
Ontario, with its peatlands, is akin to the Amazon in its importance to global futures. We must take our role in protection seriously.
