Having unified building standards is fine, but I take exception to the following:
1) The fact that these standards were decided without consultation from experts across industry and science
2) The fact that these standards were loaded into an omnibus bill, and passed so recklessly - this undermines the democratic process
and
3) The fact these these standards allow builders to create poorer quality housing next to my home, which
a) Undermines my property value, which is already declining!
b) Forces those home owners and property managers to retrofit at much higher costs.
The notion that this will drop home prices is nonsense - developers will simply bid on land more aggressively. There will be no savings to would-be home owners or renters.
And the ultimate result will be an even more dangerous world due to climate change, which the higher standards of regulation help mitigate.
You are hurting us with your hubris, Mr. Premier.
Please stop.
