To Whom It May Concern,
I am a resident of the area and live within the immediate vicinity of the Goulais River and Searchmont.

I support the proposal to build a new sewage treatment facility for the Searchmont Resort.

My support is in reaction to my knowledge that the present waste system, as it exists now, is overburdened and not adequate for the proper treatment of present sewage volumes. The present system is a hazard to the natural environment and to the residents of the area.

However I have several concerns about how that system should be replaced.

Primarily, the plan needs accountability for NO release of persistent chemicals or dangerous bacterial waste into the Goulais River. The facility needs to be responsible for the best filtration and waste treatment possible on site. I am not satisfied that the plan offered for approval here is the best that can be completed, as the guidelines for waste release into the Goulais are in response to standards of measurement, but in this case impacted by so many variables… such as volume and temperature of water, both of which have extreme ranges in this river, from flood conditions to drought.

Treatment of waste needs to extend to the front line, with low-flow toilets, environmentally sensitive cleaning products, and paper products.

I do not support any transport of waste by ground vehicle.

A strict and compliant monitoring system would be essential for this facility, with safeguards in place for extingencies such as freeze-ups, spring run-off and flood conditions, as well as user negligence.
