As a tax payer and voter I am strongly opposed to Bill 60, Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act. It bypasses committees and shuts down public debate. This approach is a deliberate strategy of “flooding the zone” to distract and confuse in the hopes that real debate and opposition is drowned out.. it is the act of an autocrat and inconsistent with democratic values.
Bill 60 is an escalation of Bill 212’s attack on evidence based decision making that would prohibit any municipality in Ontario from reducing motor vehicle lanes to build new bike
And the wording is so broad that it could block bus priority lanes, patios and cafes, school streets, and other street improvements that rely on reallocating space from cars to people.
This bill will make cities more dangerous for people who ride bicycles. Our emergency rooms are already overcrowded.
I’m sure Doug Ford enjoys a nice lunch on a patio. Maybe he should tweak the bill to exclude patios. Or maybe he should try cycling to work to see how cyclists feel.
