Thank you for the opportunity to review and provide feedback on the proposed development of harmonized road construction standards and changes to the Public Transportation Highway Improvement Act. Given the limited proposal details provided, we are only able to provide general feedback at this time.

General feedback:

• Halton Region is supportive of efforts to harmonize municipal road building standards and has participated in the OPS Municipal Participation Survey related to harmonizing road standards. If this proposal is implemented, the Region would like to flag that there needs to be a transition period for projects currently in design and construction.

• The proposal also references changes to the regulatory framework for the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act with regards to contract management, reporting requirements and exemptions. More information is required on the prescribed standards that would be included in the regulatory framework to allow the Region to assess any potential impacts on Regional transportation infrastructure planning and delivery.

We would welcome the opportunity to review more detailed regulation in the future and provide a more fulsome review.
