I adamantly oppose any measure by the Province of Ontario to restrict the ability of municipalities to make decisions concerning the allocation of road space among alternative uses, such as lanes for cars, bicycles, dedicated bus priority lanes or extensions of the sidewalk for cafes. Even IF such measures cause delays for motorists, other groups BENEFIT and these benefits should not be ignored as the Province, in Bill 60, is proposing. Local municipal governments, not the province, are best equipped to consider these tradeoffs (if there is even a tradeoff), and it is THEIR job, not the Province's. As well, and as is now obvious, we are facing a climate emergency and we need to transition more and more away from cars as a transportation mode where-ever possible. The measures proposed by the Province are entirely backward.
