The proposal for the Waste Water Treatment Plant is a bad idea. There are multiple reasons on why the proposal should be denied.
The expected amount of fecal Coliform that will be deposited into Goulais River is 99ml and the maximum valued amount is 100 ml set by the Provincial Water Quality Objective. That means there will be a 1 ml difference of hitting the maximum. This is concerning because fecal Coliforms are an indicator of fecal contamination in water which indicate pathogens in the water.
The risks of having pathogens in the water include E coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter, Shigella, Viruses (Norovirus, Hepatitis A), Intestinal Parasites (Giardia, Cryptosporidium).
Even with the fecal coliform at a low amount is still borderline unsafe. With the contamination any swimming, drinking or splashing of the water can lead to illnesses like diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps and infections like swimmers ear, conjunctivitis, rashes or dermatitis.
With many local residents that live on the river and depend on the water for drinking, cooking and bathing the idea of the Waste Water Treatment Plant is disrespectful to the community and the endangered animals such as sturgeon and wood turtles and many other animals that depend on the river like fish, beavers, ducks, geese and more.
