I strongly oppose the consolidation of Ontario’s conservation authorities. Such a move would undermine the very purpose these organizations serve: protecting our environment. Each region across Ontario faces distinct ecological challenges that demand locally tailored solutions. While conservation authorities may share a common mission, their strength lies in their ability to respond directly to the unique needs of their communities.
Merging them into a single, large regional body would erode accountability, dilute local expertise, and burden communities with added layers of bureaucracy. Instead of streamlining operations, consolidation risks driving up costs, slowing timelines, and distancing decision-making from the people most affected. In short, this proposal jeopardizes both environmental stewardship and community trust.
