I have concerns with several aspects of this proposal. First, it allows the government to appoint the a centralized leadership / board for a "Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency" with the power to override local (or rather, regional), decisions. Secondly, although the boundaries proposed for the new regional authorities purport to represent watersheds, this is glaringly false - especially in regards to the massively disconnected 'Huron-Superior Region', where the entirely ecologically distinct Thunder Bay is lumped in with Grey/Bruce and Lake Simcoe - over 1200km away. However even contiguous regions have massive disparities in terms of land use, population density. It should be glaringly obvious that these boards will be overwhelmed and unable to oversee such distinct ecosystems, each with their own complexities and pressures.
