I am writing to formally oppose the proposed Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) for the Midtown Oakville Transit-Oriented Community lands.

Oakville has already demonstrated that it is doing its part to support provincial housing goals. The Town has surpassed its provincially assigned housing targets, delivering well beyond expectations and receiving provincial incentive funding as recognition of this achievement. This clearly shows that Oakville is not resisting growth — it is managing it responsibly and effectively.

Given this context, it is unclear and unjustified why additional density is now being forced through MZOs that permanently override local planning controls. Oakville should not be treated as though it has failed to meet its obligations when the opposite is true.

Oakville has made deliberate, community-supported choices to remain a town, not a high-density urban centre defined by clusters of skyscrapers. Midtown Oakville is not Mississauga, and residents have consistently supported growth that is human-scale, balanced, and aligned with the Town’s long-term planning vision.

The use of MZOs in this case disregards years of public consultation, professional planning, and democratic municipal decision-making. It is particularly concerning that these MZOs were posted without advance notice to Town Council, Town staff, or local advisory committees, undermining transparency and public trust.

Growth can and should continue in Oakville — but it must be locally planned, infrastructure-aware, and respectful of community character, not imposed through provincial zoning orders when local processes are already delivering results.

I strongly urge the Ministry to withdraw these proposed MZOs and allow Midtown Oakville to continue to evolve through the Town of Oakville’s established planning framework, which has already proven successful in meeting and exceeding provincial housing objectives.
