Hi, my name is Dug Stevenson and I'm the Executive Director of the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board. We serve as the Destination Marketing Organization for Belleville and Quinte West, as part of RTO 9, The Great Waterway.
Further to comments echoed by our colleagues in Belleville and Quinte West -- our feedback is that upon reviewing the proposed route, a section connecting Trenton to Kingston via Highway 2 (which also serves as a designated Waterfront Trail route) should be considered.
Both Belleville and Quinte West have made great advances in recent years in active transportation, with development of their waterfront trails, dedicated cycling lanes and most recently, Belleville was named a bronze award recipient from the Bicycle Friendly Communities Program.
We feel that bypassing this area would be detrimental to the cycling development activities of these communities, who have made significant efforts and investments in active transportation.
Please contact me should you like to discuss anything further. We are here as a resource to help develop this portion of the trail with you in partnership and I'm happy to dedicate staff time from our organization in contribution to making this Quinte West - Kingston connection via Highway 2 a reality.
Thanks for your consideration, Dug
