The Ontario Toxics Reduction Act 2009 was enacted to provide more direct accountability by facilities that use or create toxic substances and is a valuable regulatory enrichment to the federal Chemicals Management Plan. Specifically, the need for businesses to be regularly accountable for toxic chemical reduction programs and their efficacy, and the move toward the use of 'greener' chemicals are at least two areas where the 2009 Act enhances the federal Plan.
The "Red Tape" referred to are important regulations that compel businesses to operate within a framework designed to protect our environment and us. It is a mistake to repeal this Act. Again, it will be future generations that will suffer the consequences of this short-sighted repeal.
