I am concerned about the proposed Environmental Compliance Approval for the anaerobic digester facility in Chatham-Kent due to the potential impacts on local air quality, surrounding ecosystems, and nearby residents.

The proposal identifies emissions including ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, methanol, and other contaminants. These substances can contribute to odour issues, respiratory irritation, and environmental degradation if not carefully controlled and continuously monitored. Hydrogen sulphide and ammonia in particular can significantly affect quality of life for nearby communities through persistent odours and potential health concerns.

I am also concerned about the long-term reliability of the proposed emission control systems, including biofilters, flares, and upgrading units. Equipment failures, insufficient maintenance, or operational issues could result in elevated emissions or nuisance odours affecting neighbouring properties and the surrounding environment.

Given the agricultural importance and environmental sensitivity of the Chatham-Kent area, strong oversight, transparent public reporting, independent monitoring, and strict enforcement conditions should be required before any approval is granted. Local residents deserve assurance that air quality, waterways, and community well-being will be protected over the long term.

I urge the Ministry to carefully evaluate the cumulative environmental and community impacts of this project before proceeding with approval.
