Province-wide cycling network now on the Environmental Registry (City of Ottawa comments)

Planning guidance below show recommendations for the future network provided by the Transportation Policy and Networks, City of Ottawa. If the province is providing immediate route guidance, detours must be developed for some of the items mentioned below.

.From approx. 1050m north of the Airport Parkway bridge over Hunt Club Road, the route should transfer to the adjacent Sawmill Creek Pathway (35m to the east) and the Brookfield Pathway, as far as the west-side of the Brookfield Road / Flannery Drive airport (2023 +).

.With respect to future plans, the City of Ottawa is planning to extend the Doug Thompson Pathway (which currently terminates at Leitrim Road) northwards to connect with the southern end of the Sawmill Creek Pathway, just to the north of Hunt Club Road. This is being planned as part of the Stage 2 LRT implementation (approx. 2023) and would follow the existing rail line, on the east side, crossing underneath the tracks, just to the north of Hunt Club Road.

.To the east of Trim Road at the edge of Orléans, we recommend showing the route diverting to Frank Kenny Road (recently renamed to Cox Country Road), Wilhaven Drive and Dunning Road before rejoining Old Montreal Road. This diversion corresponds with City plans in 2017 to add paved shoulders along this route. This is an interim measure until paved shoulders can be added to Old Montreal Road at some point in the future.

.Will the Province offer funding for paved shoulders along Old Montreal Rd?

.City of Ottawa cycling plan (2031) doesn’t include extending Doug Thompson Pathway further to the South. Will the Province offer funding to complete this Pathway Link?

.Coming from the west (Arnprior) consideration could be given to using Dunrobin Road instead of Carp Rd. Dunrobin in on our Ottawa Cycling Plan’s Ultimate Cycling Network with a vision of having a future facility.

.Coming from south (North Grenville/Kemptville on L&G CR 19/Rideau River Road) we should not show the Osgoode Link Pathway south of Osgoode Main Street as it has not been constructed/surfaced between Buckles and the south city boundary. Instead we could follow City Road 19/River Road north to Osgoode Main Street (CR 114), turn right/east until it intersects with Osgoode Link Pathway within the Village of Osgoode.

.The off-road route that follows Ottawa River Capital Pathway near Portage Bridge is not the most direct pathway route and should be changed as below:

.Consider replacing St. Joseph with the Ottawa River MUP – it is now paved all the way to Trim and St. Joseph is unusually unfriendly for cyclists once you enter Orleans. The route could rejoin Old Montreal via Trim Road which has cycling facilities on it. This route is shorter than St. Joseph although it does not have the amenities along the route one would find on St. Joseph.

.Please indicate if businesses or attractions along the route will be mentioned on the provincial map/website and if there are co-marketing opportunities for such businesses.

.Please indicate if there is a way to include our already defined self guided bicycle tours in the province map/website. (Link below)
