As a citizen of Ontario, and one who lives right next to the Greenbelt and near the Oak Ridges Moraine, I am extremely concerned about the effects this misnamed bill will have on those areas. The Greenbelt is essential for protecting sensitive natural areas and reducing urban sprawl, as well as protecting precious farmland which is being reduced in other areas at a rapid rate due to development. Doug Ford knows that the people of Ontario want the Greenbelt to be protected and yet this is his second attempt to open it up to development. That is not leadership, it is cronyism and it is unacceptable.
Additionally, the Clean Water Act, the Lake Simcoe Protection Act, the Great Lakes Protection Act, and the Toxics Reduction Act 2009 (henceforth known in this comment as the Good Acts) are all threatened by Bill 66. It seems Doug Ford wants another Walkerton rather than protecting the health of his constituents.
Bill 66 needs to be scrapped in favour of a bill that protects and strengthens the Good Acts and encourages the development of affordable housing without damaging the environment or producing urban sprawl (more mid rise buildings and less single family homes). The idea that there is not enough land to do so without opening the Greenbelt is completely false. What is needed is housing that is planned based on better land use rather than developers' greed.

Bill 66 does not "Open Ontario for Business", it rolls back essential protective acts and disregards the wants of the citizens of Ontario. It must be stopped immediately.

A citizen of Milton, Ontario
