I am absolutely is support of all industry, especially fuel providers, being required to report greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the consumption of consumable or disposable products those businesses supply to the marketplace.
In the words of Peter Drucker: what gets measured gets managed.
If companies are only required to report GHG emissions directly produced by the production of their product, there is absolutely zero incentive for companies to produce consumables with a lower GHG footprint. To remove this requirement would be to encourage them to continue unfettered production of a product the use of which harms the commons.
One of the government's core responsibilities is to protect the commons. Moreover, the current government's stated position is to achieve stated GHG reduction targets. Removing this requirement would effectively amount to abdication of both.
I urge the government to maintain reporting of GHG emissions resulting from the consumable products they supply to the market.
