nuclear power is the most dangerous method of producing electricity  ( is it not time Ontario stopped calling electricity water?).

I have lived in 3 countries during my life. all 3 have had disasters with nuclear. The UK is still spending billions each year trying to clean up the Whinscale mess (look for Selafield on the map they changed the name to make it go away).

Canada has had minor disasters at the NRU and NRX plants. The USA with three mile Island meltdown, and then Chernobyl where they worry about forest fires releasing massive amounts of radiation currently trapped in the trees. Fukushima still lets 300 tons per day of highly radioactive water flow into the pacific. and yes it is now in the sea life on our west coast.

In short if the nuclear industry had to stand on its own feet it would be long gone. Some of the major powers prop up nuclear in order to supply their weapons program, Canadian nukes were simply part of the Manhattan Project at the start, but once the hooks were in they have clung to the power of the lobby. In 1974 I attended a conference at Trent University at which the then head of hydraulic dept released a study showing the Ontario Hydro could double it peak output by installing small generators in many of the existing dams around the province. the quick response from the Crown corporation was to cut his budget in half and give the savings to the nuclear dept. Have we ever yet seen how stupid that decision was? close them down the sooner the better, then decide how to pay for the waste fuel storage and decommissioning costs.
