I have a concern about effective sheltering at Inverhuron. Inverhuron is the second largest community in the Municipality of Kincardine. It is just outside the 3km zone. The community is made up of both permanent residents and cottagers.
I am concerned that the Ontario and Durham Region governments are trying to downplay the seriousness of a possible nuclear accident at Pickering or Darlington.
On June 14, 2017, Durham Regional Council approved a report for submission to this EBR posting. The report is too large to be submitted in this format.
Health Canada/Radiation Protection Bureau welcomes the opportunity to provide its input on the Planning Basis discussion paper and proposed updates to the PNERP Master Plan.
The Fukushima disaster was primarily due to a complete lack of preparedness in case of a nuclear mishap. As citizens of Canada, we need the best possible preparation in the case of a nuclear mishap.
Real-time, continuous current and tritium monitors at Water Treatment Plant intakes should be identified as essential equipment for nuclear emergency response to off-site implications/impacts; with the responsibility residing with the Province and Ontario Power Generation to install

As a medical doctor, the best treatment is prevention. Therefore the province should not extend the licencing of these aging reactors but start their decommission like Quebec is doing with Gentilly 2.
The Ontario government should recognize public expectations for public safety, including putting in place measures to protect the public in the event of a Fukushima-scale accident.
Why would ANYONE choose a potentially devastatingly destructive power source like nuclear power when safe. green, renewable sources such as solar & wind are so easily available?
I do NOT wish to have a nuclear plant in my back yard!!! Nor do I want any of my friends, neighbors and, especially, my family exposed to fallout caused by a nuclear disaster should one occur!
There are plenty of solar, wind, and other alternatives!
The real purpose of nuclear fission has always been to manufacture plutonium for the military to use in weapons of mass destruction. In spite of numerous precautions and measure to make these facilities safe nuclear fission is incompatible with (human) life.
