Having read the documentation, I have strong concerns and many reasons to believe that, contrary to Colacem statements, used water discharged by the Cement Plant in the Charlebois creek towards the Ottawa River will contain serious amount of heavy metals. This could seriously pollute the Ottawa and Ste-Laurence Rivers and constitute a very serious public health threat to the population who use the water from the Ottawa and Ste-Laurence Rivers for drinking water. We believe that heavy metals are not filtered by Municipal Water Station downstream or by many residents’ own water treatment system for their drinking water. In addition, the heavy metals could also constitute a major threat to the wildlife on the Ottawa and Ste-Laurence Rivers. Moreover, used water and other chemicals going through the underground water system from Ivaco Steel Mill and the quarry could have a cumulative effect on this matter. We would request more studies and research to ensure that no risks will be there for all the reasons mentioned in my statement.
