My husband and I have reasons to believe that, contrary to Colacem statements, used water discharged by the Cement Plant in the Charlebois creek towards the Ottawa River will contain serious amount of heavy metals. This could seriously pollute the Ottawa and St-Lawrence Rivers and constitute a very serious public health threat to the population who use the water from the Ottawa River for drinking water. We believe that heavy metals are not filtered by Municipal Water Stations downstream or by many residents’ own water treatment system for their drinking water. In addition, the heavy metals would also constitute a major threat to the wildlife of the Ottawa and St-Lawrence Rivers. Moreover, cumulative effects from Ivaco Steel Mill and the quarry might have a cumulative effect on this matter. My husband and I are both retired and relocated to L'Orignal in May of last year from Kingston, Ont. We moved here to escape the growing noise, air and water pollution of the Kingston area. More precisely, the Lafarge Cement plant, the Ontario Power Generation Station, and the growth of wind turbines and solar farms. We chose L'Orignal as it was located in the heart of a large rural-agricultural and recreational area, and it was peaceful, quiet and beautiful. Unfortunately, since we arrived, we have been faced the on slot of the building of solar farms, the proposal to build wind turbines, an asphalt plant and now a large cement plant. We all know that the last two mentioned are large contributors to environmental pollution, and we know will have negative impact on the region. I also find it interesting that the province of Ontario is moving away from coal fired power generating plants because of the negative impact on the environment, but yet this plant is being given serious consideration though it will burn approximately 3000 tons of coal per day
