Conservation authorities do essential work for Ontario and Ontarians. It beggars belief that you are considering reducing the remit of conservation authorities at the same time we are experiencing unprecedented flood events.

Conservation authorities should have a mandatory program for conservation of natural resources. This reflects current and historical practice and is an important part of the present conservation authority responsibility. This includes inventory and monitoring, watershed/subwatershed planning, tree planning, forest management, natural heritage systems planning, habitat restoration and creation, invasive species management, and stewardship and outreach. A systems view for steward natural resources in the entire watershed is essential for effective management of the watershed.

Funding for conservation authorities should be maintained or increased.
